2:30 p.m. A Code Red siren was sounded over Zichron Yaakov, just south of Haifa and 115 km north of Gaza.
Initial reports by Channel 2 indicated that two rockets fell in open fields outside of Zichron Yaakov.
1:51 p.m. A Code Red siren was heard over Kyriat Gat followed by an interception by Iron Dome.
1:50 p.m. PA President Mahmoud Abbas contacted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi earlier on Wednesday and briefed the Middle East leader on Israel’s ongoing operation in Gaza.
“Sisi stressed Egypt was interested in the safety of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and sparing this grave assault,” a statement from Abbas’s office said, adding that Cairo would “exert efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire.”.
Under Sisi, Cairo has secured closures on the Egyptian-Gaza border, increasing economic pressure on Hamas from a long-running Israeli blockade.
1:38 p.m. Rocket lands in open area in Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council; no injuries or damage reported.
1:20 p.m. Economy Minister Naftali Bennett (Bayit Yehudi) said Wednesday that the Israeli people are strong and are prepared to bear the ongoing situation, but that they expect the government and security forces to “do the [necessary] work.”
“We are doing the work,” he told Channel 2.
