Brace yourself. Same-sex marriage is about to become the law of the land. As pointed out by Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Antonin Scalia, by their recent decision to no longer block the temporary ban on same-sex marriages in Alabama, ‘…the justices essentially were admitting what they would decide, EVEN BEFORE ARGUMENTS, expected in April, are heard in a pending dispute over same-sex marriage.‘
Allow me to refresh your memory. As you may recall, way back in July 2013 (my, how time flies), the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, held that Section 3[v] of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage for federal purposes as the union of one man and one woman, was unconstitutional. I spoke to several constitutional attorneys back then and listened to even more speak on the impact of this decision. Most, if not all, focused primarily on the point that the decision does NOT force states to legalize same-sex “marriage.” Instead, the decision now compels the federal government (i.e., taxpayers) to provide federal benefits to homosexual couples who have “married” in states that have legalized same-sex “marriage.” They focused on the states having autonomy to decide for themselves – which we now know is a farce.
I said it then and I say it once more, what the Justices were really providing was a “stay of execution” for one of the two sides, on this important topic, to win the mind of this culture on the subject of homosexuality. Then, at a later time, as they see the wind changing in one direction or the other, they will decide on the constitutionality of same-sex “marriage.”
Well, that time is upon us. It is suspected they will hear arguments in April.
It is my opinion, that we have lost the battle for the mind of our culture. At least in the minds of our Justices, we have.
Again, Justice Thomas said last week’s decision by the Justices to do nothing, “may well be seen as a signal of the court’s intended resolution.” Showing the Justices lack of respect for the authority of the state, Justice Thomas said, “I would have shown the people of Alabama the respect they deserve and preserved the status quo while the court resolves this important constitutional question.”
What is this all about? In short, start praying and start speaking Truth with your lips and not your ‘little light’ alone. We are in a battle for the mind and heart of our culture.
Scottish Reformation leader John Knox was an outspoken critic of Catholic ruler Mary, Queen of Scots. Knox said he was a “watchman” over both the nation and the church, and was “bound in conscience to blow the trumpet publicly” when danger threatened church or state.
We are not all “watchmen” on the wall. But, we are all bound to speak Truth, to stand for Truth, share Truth. Truth is not optional. Truth is not intolerant. Truth WAS the foundation of this great country.
Be determined to share Truth today. God bless…
